Environmental Laboratory

Lab Analyst/Environmental Chemist - Holt, Michigan Office

We are currently seeking a qualified Lab Analyst/Environmental Chemist for our laboratory located at headquarters in Holt, Michigan. This is a salaried, exempt position. The selected individual will work as part of a team to provide our clients with high quality analytical testing of waters, soil/sediment, solids and air. Preferred experience includes working with Hewlett Packard/Agilent GC and GC/MS instruments using purge and trap systems

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree, Chemistry preferred

  • Preferred experience includes working in progressively challenging laboratory roles such as: operation and equipment maintenance skills on GC/MS and GC; data review; knowledge of EPA methods and QA/QC

  • At least one year lab experience with GC/MS and/or GC

  • Knowledge of safe laboratory practices, including the proper procedures in handling chemicals and unknown environmental samples

  • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented individual

  • Competency with computer software

  • Candidate must have authorization to work in the U.S.

Sub-Surface Investigation Department

Drill Rig/Air Knife Assistant

We are currently seeking a full-time Drill Rig/Air Knife Assistant for our Brighton office. This hourly paid position is very labor intensive. Candidate must be able to lift 90 pounds, work long hours, frequently travel, and work outdoors in extreme temperatures. Major daily responsibilities include: lifting 90 pound augers with help; climbing up and down off a 5 foot truck bed with supplies (not straight climb up); using a jackhammer for up to one hour to drill through concrete; twisting and turning using a hand auger; digging with hands on hands and knees; shoveling dirt out of a 2 foot hole; moving loaded wheel barrel around site; moving 55 gallon drums on dolly (~600 lbs.); moving 90 pound 4 inch vac hose on shoulders with help; lifting 80 pound concrete bags alone. Candidate may also be required to occasionally assist in the shop and occasionally pick up samples from our customers’ sites.

Position Requirements

  • Valid chauffeur’s license with a clear driving record

  • Confirmation of a clear driving record from the Secretary of State office (pre-employment and periodic reviews of Motor Vehicle Report – MVR)

  • Ability to lift up to 90 pounds on a daily basis

  • Ability to use a jackhammer or other high vibrating equipment on a daily basis

  • Ability to work longer than 8 hour days, as needed

  • Ability to frequently travel out of town, with overnight stays as needed

  • Ability to work outdoors on a year-round basis

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical (as well as annual physicals)

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening (and continued drug screenings thereafter)

  • Ability to pass background checks

  • Candidate must have authorization to work in the U.S.

Fibertec Industrial Hygiene Services, Inc.

Temporary Industrial Hygiene Technicians

Fibertec IHS has several openings for full-time, temporary Industrial Hygiene Technicians. These temporary, hourly paid positions are based in the corporate headquarters in Holt, Michigan. Core responsibilities include indoor air quality monitoring in and around asbestos removal project sites located throughout mid-Michigan.

Position Requirements

  • Student (ideally a Junior) working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene or related science

  • Some industrial hygiene experience helpful

  • Good writing skills

  • Good conflict resolution skills

  • Flexible, assertive, and likes to help people

  • Out-of-town travel, occasional weekend and 2nd and 3rd shift work required

  • A reliable personal vehicle is required for company business

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clear driving record (with no DUI)

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening

  • Must have ability to pass a physical examination and are medically approved for all respirator(s) including SCBA, and pass a qualitative Fit Test

  • Must have ability to perform microscopy without visual limitations

Additional Information

  • Must be available for paid training on weekends in March and for weekday field training assignments in April

  • Anticipated start date: March 3, 2012

  • Anticipated end date: July 27, 2012

  • Rate of pay: $10/hour

  • Worked hours in excess of 40 hours per week will be paid at overtime pay (1.5 times regular rate of pay)

  • Eligible travel time will be paid at regular rate of pay

  • Work-related travel will need to be listed on an expense report and approved prior to reimbursement

  • No benefits accompany these positions
